How to get services in Nebraska
Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.
Start here Nebraska Medicaid (Heritage Health) · Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call (855) 632-7633 · Go to any DHHS office. In Lincoln call (402) 473-7000; in Omaha call (402) 595-1178.
Nebraska is an SSI criteria state, so getting SSI does not give you Medicaid automatically; you must file a Medicaid application with DHHS.
Adults with disabilities can apply under the aged, blind and disabled rules; DHHS may ask you to also apply for Social Security disability benefits.
For children: Katie Beckett: Medicaid for children with high needs who live at home; write your request for Katie Beckett on your Medicaid application or call Nebraska Medicaid.
If you work: Medicaid Insurance for Workers with Disabilities: a Medicaid option for people with disabilities who work (see the DHHS Medicaid Eligibility page for limits).
Steps
- Apply online with iServe Nebraska or call (855) 632-7633 to apply by phone or get a paper application
- If you need help with daily activities, check that box on the application
